Our Story

Caribou was founded by Alex Oosterveen and Christian Alaimo, classmates at Queen’s University, who each experienced the caregiver shortage in deeply personal ways. Alex saw it through his mother, a frontline caregiver; Christian lived it while supporting his grandmother throughout her care journey. Both came to the same realization: caregivers shape outcomes for patients, yet receive little recognition for their impact.

Years later, drawing on their shared experiences, they launched Caribou with a clear mission: end the caregiver shortage. As they listened to agencies, caregivers, and families, one truth stood out: the entire ecosystem is interconnected. When agencies thrive, they can invest more in recognition and innovation. And when caregivers feel valued, agencies perform better. The result? Better patient care.
